Sleep Center
Do you have trouble sleeping at night? Is excessive snoring becoming a big issue in your bedroom?
|
Just spend a night in the sleep lab at Newton Medical Center and your problem may be solved.
Sleep Medicine Center of Kansas, a service of Wichita Clinic, has combined forces with Newton Medical Center to provide sleep clinic and lab services in Newton.
Dr. Thomas J. Bloxham, board-certified sleep medicine specialist, works with highly trained technicians from the clinic to diagnose and treat sleep problems.
Symptoms that lead people to the Sleep Center include fatigue, insomnia, snoring and sleep apnea. Patients can be self-referred or referred by a physician.
In his initial visit with each new patient, Dr. Bloxham conducts a full sleep-oriented history and physical. After the evaluation, he suggests treatment or testing appropriate for that individual.
Sometimes this includes a stay at the sleep lab.
Each Monday night technicians from the Sleep Medicine Center arrive at NMC with portable testing equipment. Patients are settled into their "bedrooms" where technicians attach sleep lab monitors.
Although many patients are apprehensive about their ability to sleep while attached to monitors, Hendrickson reports that 99 percent of lab patients sleep well.
Two to three weeks later, patients meet with Dr. Bloxham for a report on the extensive data collected.
